Abstract

This study deeply analyzes the concepts and relationship between Xin (心, heart/mind) and Qi (氣, vital energy) in Mencius' philosophy and explores how these can be applied to modern moral education. Focusing particularly on Mencius' Haoran Chapter, the research examines the relationship between Xin and Qi, with an emphasis on how their interaction influences moral judgment and practice. The findings reveal that in Mencius' philosophy, Xin serves as the core of moral judgment and action, while Qi functions as the sustaining life force. The harmonious integration of these two elements plays a crucial role in achieving moral maturity. Based on this understanding, the study suggests that modern moral education should guide students in controlling their emotions and maintaining moral resolve, emphasizing continuous self-reflection and the alignment of emotional regulation with moral behavior. Future research should focus on developing educational programs that reinforce the interaction between Xin and Qi, thereby promoting consistency in moral judgment and action.
