Abstract
This study explores how three middle-aged women recovered from their experiences of loss—death, health deterioration, and relational disconnection-through ecological engagement and poetic expression. Over the course of one year, the participants cultivated vegetable and flower gardens while engaging in personal writing and poetry composition. These activities facilitate the therapeutic processes involving emotional activation, sensory embodiment, verbal articulation, and eventual acceptance. Participant A processed long-held grief about her deceased father by revisiting childhood memories through gardening and poetry, ultimately reaching a state of emotional integration. Participant B confronted the dual shock of her father's suicide and her own cancer diagnosis through intentional acts of mourning, family dialogue, and communal care. Participant C, though less verbally expressive, immersed herself in aesthetic practices by designing flower beds, thereby recovering a sense of self-care and developing an ethical relationship with nature. The participants’ emotional trajectories demonstrated the potential of combining ecological experiences and poetic writing as a holistic method of grief recovery. This study contributes to the field of literary and ecological therapy by proposing a model that integrates sensory practice with symbolic articulation, and offers implications for the future development of institutional and personalized healing programs.
