Abstract
Spherical harmonic lighting(SH lighting) are a technique for calculating the lighting on 3D models from area light sources that allows us to capture, relight and display global illumination style images in realtime. It is called a precomputed radiance transfer(PRT) technique because it makes a precomputation memory-affordable and simplifies the expensive rendering integrals to simple and fast dot products. In this paper, we propose how to express a kind of spherical harmonics using simple basis function of Legendre polynomial and Chebyshev polynomial. The experimental results show that the use of Legendre polynomial is not only better in visual quality than that of Associated Legendre polynomial if the number of basis functions is small, but it also takes a less time to process for rendering.
