Abstract
The Copyrightable Subject Matter in the U.S. Copyright Law In this thesis, I would like to study the subject matter for copyrighted works under the U.S. copyright law because most international agreements on intellectual trade don't have standardized regulations on this matter and protections afforded intellectual creations vary significantly from country and country. When the United Stats ratified the Berne International Convention in 1989, that action modified some of the copyright laws, particularly those dealing with the requirements for notice. As I discuss copyrighted work in the U.S. copyright law system, I mentioned the history of the U.S. copyright law because the materials copyrighted prior to 1976 and between 1976 and 1989 have different protections and requirements than do materials copyrighted in 2007. After that, I studied the creation of copyrights giving criteria in 'originality', 'tangible form', 'notice' and 'registration' and described the specifically 8 copyrightable subject matters under the U.S. copyright law and cases.
