포스트휴먼의 공포에 대한 비판적 고찰

이 글의 목적은 포스트휴먼 반대자들이 포스트휴먼에 대해 가지는 공포를 비판적으로 고찰함에 있다. 포스트휴먼 반대자들은 (F1)포스트휴먼화는 비인간화이며 이것은 인간 존엄성을 훼손하는 유해한 것이라고 주장하며, (F2)포스트휴먼의 출현은 인간에 대한 불평등과 학살을 이끈다는 점에서 위협적이라고 본다. 그러나 필자는 (F1)과 (F2)는 다음과 같은 이유에서 정당한 것이 아님을 비판한다. 첫째, (F1)은 포스트휴먼화가 비인간화임을 증명할만한 명확한 인간개념을 제시하지 못하며, 포스트휴먼화가 비인간화라고 할지라도 그것이 인간의 존엄성을 훼손시키는 유해한 것임을 증명할 구체적인 근거를 제시하지 못한다. 둘째, (F2)는 존재의 도덕적 지위는 우월성에 따라 결정된다는 잘못된 믿음과 인간 중심주의적인 가정에서 비롯된다. 따라서 명확하지 않은 근거와 비도덕적인 가정에 의존하는 공포는 포스트휴먼을 반대하는 정당한 근거가 될 수 없다. 필자는 포스트휴먼의 진정한 의미는 인간/비인간의 경계 해체와, 인간 중심주의의 극복이며, 기술과 인간이 점차 융합되어가는 현 시대에 우리에게 필요한 세계관과 도덕률은 이러한 포스트휴먼의 진정한 의미를 기반으로 모색되어야 한다고 본다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to criticize the fear about posthuman. Opponents of posthuman insist that becoming posthuman is dehumanization and harmful for the dignity of human,(F1)) and that appearance of posthuman leads inequality.((F2)) But, I criticize that both (F1) and (F2) are not valid. First, (F1) can neither suggest accurate concept of human, which verifies that becoming posthuman is dehumanization, nor suggest concrete grounds verifying that becoming posthuman is harmful for the dignity. Second, (F2) originated from incorrect belief that moral status is determined by superiority and depends on the speciesism. Therefore, the fear depending on inaccurate grounds and unethical assumption cannot be reasons for opposing posthuman. And, the posthuman shows that the boundary between human/non-human is deconstructed and speciesism is disintegrated. In this thesis, I point out that opponents of posthuman don't grasp the meaning of posthuman.
