대학에서의 거꾸로 학습(Flipped learning) 사례 설계 및 효과성 연구: 학습동기와 자아효능감을 중심으로

본 연구의 목적은 문헌 및 사례 분석을 통해 효과적인 거꾸로 학습 수업 전략을 모색해 보고, 대학 강좌를 위한 거꾸로 학습 사례를 개발하는 데 있다. 또한 개발된 거꾸로 학습 전략을 실제 수업에 적용해 봄으로써 거꾸로 학습의 효과를 학습동기와 자아효능감의 측면에서 검증해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 K대학교 체육교육과 전공기본과목인 ‘운동생리학’을 수강한 2학년 학생 39명(남학생 33명, 여학생 6명)을 대상으로 4주간의 거꾸로 학습을 적용하였다. 수업 전과 후에 학습동기 검사, 자아효능감 검사를 실시하였고, 대응표본 t-검증을 통해 그 변화를 분석하였다. 한편, 양적 검사와 함께 수업관찰 및 그룹 면담을 통한 질적 연구도 수행하였다. 질적 자료는 근거성을 도출하고 개념적 네트워크 분석을 실시하였다. 실험 결과 학습 동기 검사에서는 전체 평균 및 하위척도 모두에서 사전검사보다 사후검사에서 점수가 향상되었으나 통계적으로 유의미한 차이는 아니었다. 한편, 자아효능감 검사에서는 전체 평균이 통계적으로 유의미한 향상을 보였다. 특히 자아효능감의 하위척도들 중에서 과제난이도선호와 자아조절효능감이 유의미하게 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 질적 분석에서는 ‘거꾸로 학습의 문제점 발견’, ‘개선방법의 모색과 적용,’ ‘관찰된 거꾸로 학습의 효과,’ ‘거꾸로 학습에 적응해 감’등이 의미 있는 범주로 떠올랐다. 이들 결과들은 비록 초기에 거꾸로 학습에 대한 저항도 나타났고, 거꾸로 학습에 대한 회의도 제기되었으나, 동시에 개선방법을 모색하고 적용하려는 인지적 활동과 거꾸로 학습에 적응해 가는 과정을 뚜렷하게 보여주었고, 거꾸로 학습의 잠재성과 교육적 시사점을 제시하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a case for flipped learning and implement it to real classroom based on the literature review and case studies. This study is also aimed to provide oversight and monitoring of an intervention study to ensure the effect of flipped learning on motivation and self-efficacy. Furthermore, qualitative data were also explored in order to have a better understanding of the actual teaching and learning circumstance and context. Participants who are involving in a series of flipped learning curriculum of “exercise physiology” for 4 weeks are 39 sophomore students (33 males, 6 females) of physical education at a University in Korea. First, students were asked to take a motivation test and a self-efficacy test prior to and after the experiment and the results were analyzed by the paired t- tests. Secondly, qualitative data that were collected through the class observation, in-depth interviews, and semi-structured surveys were analyzed by the the qualitative data analysis software package, ATLAS.ti., in order to reveal the groundedness from data and build the conceptual network between nodes. The results indicate that the flipped learning is associated with significant improvements in self-efficacy (p<.01), but not with motivation. Findings suggest that the intervention of flipped learning turned out to be effective to develop self-efficacy for learning. Four major themes emerged from the qualitative data analysis: finding problems of flipped learning; seeking and applying improvement methods; discovering positive effects of flipped learning; and adapting to flipped learning. Overall study participants were found to be influenced by positive effects of flipped learning such as ‘not feeling sleepy in the class (at least)’ and ‘active participation to class’ despite facing strong resistance from class, where initially skepticism appeared. Students managed to get used to the flipped learning by seeking improvement methods and applying meta-cognition in their learning process.
