Abstract

This study tries to look into the current trends of geographical education and then to proposes an improvement way of teaching materials for North Korea. In order to understand geographical education of North Korea and to improve resources for learning a region, this study analyzes North Korean textbooks and reviews the existing researches on geographical education for DPRK. Then, I checks the contents and approaches of learning North Korea areas in our curriculum and textbooks. On the basis of both analyses, the study proposes the course of improving geographical resource of North Korea areas in elementary and secondary schools. That is an emphasis on learning of sense an united national territory in elementary school, learning about geographical characteristics of North Korea areas in secondary(middle) school, and learning for preparations for changes of North Korea areas and unification of Korea in secondary(high) school. With diverse approaching to geographical resource of North Korea areas, especially, this study finds out an importance of opening region as a geographical resources and proposing a way to make use of it. Opening regions represent the recent changes of DPRK and are providing the motive which makes us understand relating to the political situation of Korean Peninsula in international scale.
