4차 산업혁명 시대의 도래는 현 시대가 당면한 문제들을 해결할 수 있는 능동적이고 협력적인 인재를 필요로 하고 있으며, 이를 위한 교육적 대안으로서 메이커 운동에서 기인한 메이커교육이 제시되고 있다. 메이커교육은 흔히 메이커 활동을 통한 결과물 생산이라는 하드 스킬에 대한 관심이 집중되어 있으나 이와 동시에 메이커 활동 과정과 결과를 통해 소위 메이커 정신(mindsets)이라는 소프트 스킬을 함양한다는 목표도 지니고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 메이커교육은 다양한 도구와 재료 구비 및 전문 강사 수급, 메이커스페이스 활용, 나아가 실생활 연계 활동 등의 인프라를 전제로 하기 때문에 외부 기관과의 협력적 관계로서의 아웃리치 프로그램은 메이커교육을 실행하기에 더욱 요긴한 환경이 된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 ‘디자인사고기반 메이커교육 모형’에 따라, 109명의 중학생 대상으로 자유학기제를 활용한 15주차 메이커교육 아웃리치 프로그램을 개발, 시행한 후, 그 결과로서 질적 자료(인터뷰, 성찰일지, 관찰일지)를 바탕으로 메이커운동 선언문에서 강조되었던 메이커 정신(자기주도성, 생산적 실패, 공감, 나눔과 공유) 함양에 초점을 두고 분석하고자 하였다. 더불어 아웃리치 메이커교육이 주는 교육적 의미와 가치(실제적 학습 환경, 외부와의 연결, 전문 강사 활용)를 간략히 제시하였다.
Abstract
The advent of 4th Industrial Revolution has raised needs for empathetic, proactive, and collaborative competencies which are able to solve complicated social issues and problems. For this purpose, Maker education, originated from Maker Movement, has been suggested as alternative educational environments. since it tends to focus on not only developing material competencies, but also fostering maker mindsets throughout the whole process of maker activities. Maker education, however, requires infrastructures, such as various kinds of materials, tools, and advanced technologies, professional instructors, and using makerspaces as well. Accordingly, outreach program in corporation with external organization might be a appropriate model to practice the maker education along with its educational values in presenting authentic learning environments to the students. In this context, this study, after developing and implementing a ‘design thinking process based Maker education’ program in the form of an outreach program to 109 students in 7th graders during a free semester, purposed to examine 1) how maker mindsets(self-autonomy, productive failure, empathy, and sharing) can be practiced among the participant students, and 2) what are the educational values of the program as an outreach program. For this purpose, qualitative data(interview, reflective journals, observational reports) were analyzed by the researchers. Finally, considerations needed for successful Maker education outreach program are briefly suggested.
