본 연구는 지리교과에서 인권 교육의 가능성에 대해 탐구하였다. 먼저 인권 개념의 형성과 발달 과정을 이론적으로 검토하여 인권 개념을 3가지 유형으로 구분하였다. 그 다음 지리교과에서 인권 교육의 가능성을 지리를 통한 인권 교육과 지리적 인권에 대한 교육으로 나누어 고찰하였다. 지리를 통한 인권 교육에서는 지리교과의 고유한 학습 방법을 적용하여 인권 교육의 가능성을 탐구하였고, 지리적 인권에 대한 교육에서는 주거권, 도시권, 환경권을 지리적 인권 내용으로 개발한 후 지리교육과정과의 연관성을 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 지리교과는 인권을 교육함으로써 학교교육의 패러다임 변화에 부응하고, 지리교육의 목적인 시민성을 함양하며, 지리교육 내용지식의 원천을 다양화하는 효과가 있지만 사회과 통합 논의에 흡수될 우려가 있음을 지적하였다.
Abstract
This study aims to inquire into the possibility of human rights education in geography subject. First, after theoretically examining the formation and development process of the concept of human rights, the concept of human rights was divided into three types. Next, the possibility of human rights education in the geography subject was explored, as divided into human rights education through geography and education about geographical human rights. In the human rights education through geography, it is explored that the possibility of human rights education by applying a unique learning method of geography subject. In the education about geographical human rights, it is developed that the rights to environment, the right to housing and the right to the city as the geographical human rights contents, and its relevance to the geography curriculum was examined. Finally, by educating human rights, the geography subject had the effect of meeting the changes of the paradigm of school education, cultivating citizenship for the purpose of geography education, diversifying the source of knowledge of geography education contents. But it was pointed out that the possibility of being absorbed in the integrated social studies.
