Abstract

This study is a work to supplement the contents of the coastal morphology of the South Coast in Korean Peninsula, which has been neglected because the textbook contents on the coastal morphology are described mainly in comparison between the East and West Coast. To this end, from the 3rd curriculum textbook to the current curriculum textbook, the contents related to the coastal morphology of the South Coast were analyzed, and the main topics of inquiry about the coastal morphology of the South Coast were selected. The selected topics of inquiry are ‘from where to where the south sea is’, ‘whether the South coast is an uplifted or subsided coast’, ‘what are the major coastal morphology of the South Coast’, and ‘how are they formed through geomorphological processes’. Unlike the East and West Coast in terms of material balance, the South Coast, where shows indented coastline owing not only to the alternation of bays and headland ridges but also to the distribution of numerous isles, has little interference from materials supplied from other coastal areas. The main coastal sedimentary topography of the South Coast is sand beach, tidal flat, and gravel beach, and the other major coastal morphology are coastal terraces and sea cliffs. These various coastal morphology are the result of interaction between the types of bedrock and weathering characteristics, and the coastal topographic environment that appears as bay and headland.
