비판적 문화운동과 철학적 비평의 가능성

초록

이 논문은 하버마스의 공론장 이론을 중심으로 비판적 문화운동과 철학적 비평 의 중요성을 고찰하고 있다. 하버마스는 후기에 공론장의 활성화 가능성에 대해 긍 정하고 있다. 그의 이론에 따르면 이 공간에서 사회화된 만큼이나 개인화된 자아가 활동을 하게 되는데, 이들은 문화적 측면에서 기존의 전통을 합리적으로 거부할 수 있는 사람들이다. 문화적 차원에서 이러한 활동의 대표적인 사례가 바로 비판적 문화운동과 철학적 비평이다. 비판적 문화운동은 전통에 대한 합리적 거부를 표현하는 활동이며, 철학적 비평은 이러한 표현된 거부를 논변의 장, 즉 공론장의 핵심 기능인 합의의 메커니즘 안으로 끌어들인다. 이런 맥락에서 하버마스의 공론장은 비판적 문화운동의 표현적 행위를 통해 그리고 철학적 비평을 통해 인정과 합의의 활동들이 지속적으로 작동하는 곳이 된다. 바로 이런 점 때문에 후기에 하버마스는 공론장에 대한 비관적 견해를 수정하게 되는 것이다. 그런데 이 논문은 비판적 문화운동과 철학적 비평을 통해 하버마스 이론의 극복 가능성도 어느 정도 모색하고 있다. 그러나 이 가능성은 문제제기의 수준에 불과하다. 따라서 앞으로 남은 과제는 하버마스의 공론장 안에서 합의의 메커니즘과 인정의 메커니즘이 어떻게 함께 작동할 수 있는지를 설명하는 것이다. 그래야만 철학적 비평에 비해 다소 빈약한 표현적 차원의 비판적 문화운동의 가능성에 대한 하버마스의 설명이 효과적으로 완성될 것이다. 그렇다면 여기서 언급되는 비판적 문화운동의 가능성은 그 자신의 의미도 중요하지만, 하버마스의 이론을 보다 정교하게 하거나 극복하기 위해서라도 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 결국 이 논문은 비판적 문화운동과 철학적 비평이라는 하나의 축과 하버마스의 이론이라는 두 축을 경쟁시킴으로써, 문화적 삶의 가능성 그리고 상호주관성과 합리성에 기반을 둔 새로운 문화이론의 가능성을 동시에 모색하고 있는 다소 과도기적인 성격을 갖고 있다.

Abstract

This essay concentrates on the potentiality of critical cultural movement and philosophical criticism in being based on Habermas' theory of public sphere. Late Habermas affirms the potentiality of reactivating public sphere. According to Habermas, socialized and individualized individuals work in this sphere. In the cultural dimension, they are the person who can reject existing traditions and conventions rationally. In this dimension, representative instances are critical cultural movement and philosophical criticism. Critical cultural movement is the expression of rational rejection of traditions. Philosophical criticism brings this expression to public sphere in which consensus mechanism works. In this context, public sphere is the place where consensus and recognition are worked by expressive action and philosophical criticism. In this reason, late Habermas revises his early pessimistic perspective. But this essay gropes more or less the potentiality to overcome Habermas' theory through critical cultural movement and philosophical criticism, even though this potentiality is a draft in this essay. So my remain task is the explanation of how do consensus mechanism and recognition mechanism cowork in public sphere. If it is possible, it complements or overcomes Habermas' theory. In this context, critical cultural movement is important more than philosophical criticism. Ultimately, this essay has two axis, on the one hand critical cultural movement and philosophical criticism, on the other hand Habermas' theory. Two axis is competitive. In this reason, this essay has transitional character. Because on the one hand it surveys the potentiality of culturally good life by means of Habemas' theory, on the other hand it surveys the potentiality of overcoming Habermas' theory by means of critical cultural movement and philosophical criticism.
