Abstract

The purpose of this study was to give suggestions for promoting biology teaching and learning by analyzing internet use related to biology education of secondary school biology teachers and students. For this study, survey was conducted for 221 secondary school biology teachers and 618 secondary school students, and the results were analyzed by SPSS. Results are as follows: (1) 87.2% of the secondary school biology teachers have used the Internet more than twice a month, but only 20.5% of the secondary school students did. (2) The major purpose of using the Internet was to find data and information, which was common in teachers and students. (3) Teachers have used the Internet more efficiently than students by using the functions like bookmarks and recommended sites. (4) Teachers and students felt that the quantity and quality of data on the web related to biology education were not bad, but they wanted more various materials which was available directly in biology teaching and learning. (5) and unvaried, text-centered, untimely updated materials were pointed out as problems.
