중국 소설 원작 애니메이션의 서사 비교 연구: <대요천궁(大闹天宫)> (1964)과 <신서유기: 몽키킹의 부활(大圣归来)>(2015)을 사례로

Abstract

This paper attempts to unveil the in-depth meaning of the films and demostrate changes to narratives in different times, by dissecting “Havoc in Heaven” and “Monkey King: Hero is Back” adapted from the same classic novel. This paper uses Vogler’s heroic narrative theory, the 12 stages of the hero’s journey, and the seven most common archetypes that Vogler identifies in the hero’s journey as the theoretical basis to study the two works with the help of the heroic narrative structure and typical character archetypes. First, the heroic narrative content and character settings of The Greatest Showman (1964) and The Return of the Great Sage (2015) are analyzed, and then the two works are then compared and analyzed. By comparing the film and television adaptations of the same source novel, we can find that the narrative structure of the works changes from “confrontation” and “power” to the expression of the theme of human self-growth in different times. The characterization changes from a single dramatic character to a multi-faceted modern hero. In general, there is a trend of “turning inward”. This trend of change is closely related to the construction of ideology, and the development of spiritual civilization, revealing a rich and profound historical logic and symptoms of the times.
