연구 목적: 연어 학습에 대한 필요성을 인식하고 연어 교육 방법 중의 하나로써 영화를 통한 연어 학습을 제시하고자 하였다. 연구 방법: 사전 연구로써 한국인 대학생 학습자 코퍼스와 미국 대학생 코퍼스에서 연어 사용을 비교 분석하였으며, 영화를 사용하는 연어 학습 교실 수업을 실시하여, 사전테스트와 사후 테스트를 통해 성과를 비교하였다. 연구 내용: 사전 연구에서는 한국인 대학생과 미국인 대학생의 연어 빈도를 분석하여 비교하였다. 이를 토대로 영화를 통한 연어 교실 수업을 실시하고 그 효과를 분석하였다. 결론 및 제언: 연구 결과, 1) 코퍼스 비교를 통해 한국인 대학생 학습자들은 연어를 많이 사용하고 있었으며, 영어능력이 향상됨에 따라, 연어사용빈도가 증가함을 보여주었다. 2) 영화를 통한 연어 학습은 모든 영어 수준에서 연어 이해를 향상시켰으며, 특히 중위그룹의 학습자에게 더욱 효과적이었다. 3) 모든 연어 품사 조합에 대한 성과가 향상되었으나, 특히 명사+명사의 연어가 가장 향상되었으며, 형용사+명사 연어는 유일하게 크게 향상되지 않았다. 4) 학습자들은 영화를 통한 영어 학습이 흥미를 유지하며 영어를 배우는 좋은 방법이라고 기술했다. 본 연구의 결과는 효율적인 대학 수업을 설계하고자 하는 교수자들에게 매우 유용할 것으로 확신한다.
Abstract
This study investigated the effect of learning collocation through movies. As a preliminary study, collocation use was compared and analyzed in Korean college learner corpus and American college student corpus. Collocation learning classroom classes through movies were conducted six times and the performance of the classroom classes were compared through pre-test and post-test. The results of the corpus study showed that Korean university student learners used collocation a lot, and that as their English skills improved, the frequency of collocation use increased. The results of classroom study showed that learning through movies improved collocation comprehension at all English levels, especially for learners in the median group. Collocation of noun+noun was the most improved, and adjective+noun collocation was the only one that did not improve significantly. Learners described learning English through movies as a good way to stay interested and learn English. The results of this study will be very useful for instructors to aspire to design efficient university classes.
