본 연구의 목적은 고령 시각장애인의 농업 활동 경험과 의미를 탐색하는 것이다. 2021년 9월부터 10월까지 만 50세 이상의 시각장애인 총 9명을 대상으로 3회의 심층 면담이 진행되었으며, 수집된 자료는 질적 방법으로 분석되었다. 연구 결과, 고령의 시각장애인이 인식하는 농업 활동 경험은 ‘생각할 수 없었음’, ‘기회가 있으면 기꺼이 할 수 있음’, ‘다른 세상을 경험할 수 있음’으로 드러났다. 즉, 시각장애인은 농업을 할 수 없다는 편견과 달리 이들에게 농업 활동은 할 수 있고 또 하고 싶은 일이면서, 신체 및 심리･정서적, 직업적 차원에서 긍정적인 변화와 가치가 있는 경험으로 확인되었다. 특별히 농업이 가지고 있는 치유의 특성이 나타났기에 향후에는 농업 활동을 활용한 다양한 직업재활, 건강, 삶의 질 향상을 위한 실천 및 정책적 지원이 마련되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences and meanings of agricultural activities among the elderly with visual impairments. From September to October 2021, an in-depth interview of a total of 9 visually impaired persons aged 50 years or older were conducted three times and collective data were analyzed in a qualitative way. As a result of the study, it was revealed that the experiences of agricultural activities perceived by the participants were ‘I couldn't imagine’, ‘I could do it if I had the opportunities’, and ‘I could experience a different world’. In other words, contrary to the prejudice that visually impaired people cannot do agriculture, it was confirmed that agricultural activities are something they could and wanted to do, and had positive changes and valuable experiences at the physical, psychological, emotional, and professional level. In particular, since the healing characteristics of agriculture have been revealed, in the future, various vocational rehabilitation using agricultural activities and practical and policy support for improving health and quality of life should be prepared.
