본 연구의 목적은 후기 낭만주의 폴 타파넬(1844-1908)의 작품 오페라 『마탄의 사수 주제에 의한 변주곡』(1876)에 나타난 음악적 특징과 연주법을 분석하여, 이 곡을 연주하려고 하는 플루트 연주자들에게 도움을 주기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 타파넬의 생애, 작품 세계와 음악적 특징을 알아본 후, 이를 바탕으로 작품 오페라 『마탄의 사수 주제에 의한 변주곡』을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 타파넬은 청중들에게 익숙한 베버의 오페라 『마탄의 사수』의 주제 선율을 플루트 음색에 맞게 변형하고 발전되도록 구성하여, 플루트의 대중화와 연주효과를 동시에 높이고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 현대 플루트 기법의 선구자였던 타파넬은 작품에서 극적인 다이내믹의 대조, 자유로운 음악적 흐름, 급격한 음역 등의 작곡기법을 통해 플루트 사운드의 풍부함과 표현의 다양성을 부여하고 있었다. 이를 표현하기 위해 플루트 연주자들은 충분한 연습을 통해 다양한 테크닉적 요소들을 습득하고 플루트의 음역과 음색에 적합한 화려하고 풍부한 음향을 잘 표현할 수 있는 음악적 능력을 갖추도록 노력하는 것이 매우 중요하다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the musical characteristics and performance methods shown in Fantaisie on Themes from Der Freyschütz by Paul Taffanel (1844-1908) to help flute performers. To this end, this study examined Taffanel’s life, musical characteristics and compositional styles, and based on this, Fantaisie on Themes from Der Freyschütz was analyzed. As a result, it was analyzed that the popularization of the flute and the performance effect was increased by transforming and developing the theme melody of Weber’s opera Der Freyschütz familiar to the audience to match the tone of the flute. Also, Taffanel, who was a pioneer of the modern flute technique, gave the richness and diversity of expression of the flute sound through composition techniques such as dramatic dynamic contrast, free musical flow, and rapid range in his work. To express this, it is important for flute players to acquire various technical elements through sufficient practice and to strive to have the musical ability to express colorful and rich sounds suitable for the range and tone of the flute.
