영화 속 응시 관계 변화에 관한 연구: 영화 「타오르는 여인의 초상」을 중심으로

연구 목적: 이 연구는 프랑스 영화 「타오르는 여인의 초상」 속 초상화 세 작품을 분석하여 영화 속 응시 관계의 변화를 탐구했다. 본 연구의 목적은 영화 속 여성이 마주한 사회의 성별 및 신분에 관한 문제를 해석하기 위한 방법을 탐구하는 데 있다. 연구 방법: 연구 방법은 자크 라캉(Jacques Lacan)의 응시이론을 바탕으로, 주체가 사물을 응시하는 과정에서 객체가 느끼는 시선을 분석하고 주체와 객체의 신분 변화에 주목했다. 연구 내용: 엘로이즈의 초상화 세 작품을 그리는 과정에서 나타나는 다양한 응시 관계를 분석했다. 결론 및 제언: 세 차례에 걸쳐 초상화를 그리는 과정에서 마리안느는 남성적 시선에서 벗어났고 엘로이즈는 시선의 대상이었다가 평등한 시선을 이끌어냈고 또 능동적인 시선의 대상이 되었다. 이로써 남성적 시선에서 자신의 주체적인 신분을 다시 써 여성의 신분 정체성을 확립했다. 「타오르는 여인의 초상」이 아름다운 화면과 세밀한 시청각적 언어로 불처럼 타오르는 사랑을 그려냈다는 점, ‘제1의 성’으로서의 여성을 강조했다는 점, 일반적인 서사 특징으로 레즈비언 소재 영화가 ‘응시’와 ‘엽기’에서 벗어나 여성 평등 사상을 알렸다는 점을 부정할 수는 없다.
Abstract
The study analyzed three portraits in the French film Portrait of a Lady on Fire to explore changes in the gaze relationship in it. The purpose of this study is to explore ways to interpret the problems of gender and identity of society faced by women in the movie. Based on Jacques Lacan’s The Gaze theory, the research method analyzed the gaze of the object in the process of staring at the object and paid attention to the change in the status of the subject and the object. Various gaze relationships that appear in the process of painting three portraits of Eloise were analyzed. In the process of painting the portrait three times, Marianne escaped from the masculine gaze, and Eloise was the object of gaze, drew an equal gaze, and became the object of active gaze. As a result, the identity of a woman was established by rewriting her subjective identity from a masculine perspective. Therefore，with the beautiful frames and delicate audio-visual language, Portrait of a Lady on Fire outlines a same-sex love blazing like a raging fire, presents a normalized narrative feature while strengthening the First Nature of female, and making movies with lesbian themes no longer stop at the development stage of ‘peeping’ and ‘hunting for curiosity’.
