Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between interpretation bias in social situation and eating disorder symptoms and to examine the moderating effect of shape and weight based self-evaluation. For this study, data collected from 154 college women (aged 18 to 26) through survey. The main results of this study were as follows. The moderating effect of shape and weight based self-evaluation was significant on the relationship between negative interpretation and bulilmic, but not on the relationship between negative interpretation and body dissatisfaction, drive for thinness, and restraint. Whereas, the moderating effect was significant on the relationship between Disqualification of Positive Social Outcome (DPSO) and drive for thinness and restraint, but not on the relationship between DPSO and bulimic and body dissatisfaction. The results of this study provided the basis for interpersonal treatment of eating disorder symptoms.
