Abstract

The great seal of the Joseon Dynasty is a symbolic seal that continues the resignation of Royal Ancestral Shrine. It is the object of respect for the royal family's continual permanence and prosperity and the value of the sacred treasures of the Joseon Dynasty. The narrative of the great seal was taken up by a professional scrivener or a kindred of the king or cultured person at the time. The engraving of stamp and the craftsmen of cast was found that the artisans who work for seal, jade, sukpi, and sculpture engaged in the state-owned handicrafts participated. If study the production process from the perspective of the new culture of modern times about the fully equipped stamp, it can be said that there are the following cultural patterns. First, the form of stamp is basically a square. Second, the face of stamp is a symmetry. Third, the character of stamp has a kind of mixed sense of aesthetics and flow. Looking at the changes and characteristics of the Bomun(寶文) shape, the ‘So(昭)’ characters from King Sejong to King Soonjo’s five-year(1805) generally follow the generally follow the human face law. It was written as Gucheobjeon(九疊篆) or as Mujeon(繆篆). However, from the 13th year of King Cheoljong(1862), from the Soonjokgeumbo(67), it has been in the form of Injeon(印篆), away from the Gucheobjeon(九疊篆). And most of the ‘Heon(憲)’ characters were excluded from the Gucheobjeon(九疊篆) except for Sejongbisoheon-Wanghugeumbo(110). In addition, in the case of ‘Ji(之)’, the form of conflation was rich from Sukjongbiingyeong-Wanghuogbo(154) to Seonjobiuiin-Wanghugeumbo(132). However, afterwards, it gradually changed from Gucheobjeon(九疊篆) to Injeon(印篆). In addition, the same letters produced in the same year, If it was looked at the ‘King (王)’, ‘Hu (后)’, ‘Ji (之)’, ‘Bo (寶)’, ‘Sung (聖)’, ‘Hyo (孝)’ and ‘Hyun(顯)’, It can be seen that even the same letters were mainly used in Gucheobjeon(九疊篆) to fill the stamp face in order to maintain the balance and unity in the stamp face. The form of the great seal composed of a large number of variants. The character of ‘Gang(康)’, ‘Heon(獻)’, and ‘Gu(口)’ of the upper right of ‘Sung(聖)’ of Taejo Geumbo (5 and 6) produced in the 9th year of King Sukjong (1683) and the 9th year of King Gojong(1872). Also, the ‘Eui(懿)’, ‘On(溫)’, ‘Whang(王)’, ‘Ji(之)’, ‘Bo (寶)’ and etc. of Jeongjong-Gumbo(7) and Jeongjongbijeong-An-Wanghugeumbo(109) produced in the same year of the 7th year of Sukjong(1681) are also examples of transferees. Moreover, the characters of ‘Ui(懿, )’ of Jeongjongbijeong-An-Wanghugeumboui and ‘Ji(之, )’ of Yejongheummunseongmuuiinsohyodaewangjibo of Yejong-Geumjo(10) are misspelling. In general, the treat seal is also using a schematic Gucheobjeon(九疊篆). However, after Gojong and Soonjong, it was also found that the character of stamps themselves were gradually escaping from the Gucheobjeon(九疊篆).
