초록

한국전쟁은 연구주제의 중요성만큼 다방면에서 연구가 지속되고 있다. 하지만, 아직까지 한국전쟁이 도시에 미친 영향에 대해서는 ‘파괴’에 대한서술 이외의 다른 방식으로 분석된 적이 없다. 해방 이후 서울과 평양모두 도시사적 시각에서 진행된 연구성과가 적다는 것이 근본적인 이유지만, 일부 전쟁과 도시를 언급한 연구들도 도시재건에 초점이 맞춰져 있을뿐 정확한 파괴상, 재건되는 도시에 투영된 이념 이전 도시구성과의 차이등은 고려하지 못했다. 이에 본 연구는 “완벽한 파괴 위에 재건된 도시”라는 전후 평양의 서술이과연 정확한 것인지 의문을 제기한다. 아직까지도 평양에 폭격이 어떻게얼마나 이루어졌는가라는 기초적인 의문이 해결되지 못한 상태이기 때문에 당연하게도 평양의 전쟁 전 도시구성과 전후 도시구성의 차이 또한분석이 시도된 적이 없다. 따라서 본 연구는 6·25전쟁으로 인해 평양의피해가 어느 정도였는지 ‘완벽한 파괴’가 사실이었는지 파악하는 것을 1차과제로 설정하였다. 이러한 분석을 통해 미공군의 폭격이 ‘사회주의 도시’ 평양이라는 이미지가 형성되는데, 어떤 역할을 한 것인지 확인하고 그배경에 대하여 조명하고자 한다.

Abstract

Research on the Korean War has been carried out given the historical significance of the war. However, the effects of the Korean War on cities have never been analyzed other than from the perspective of ‘destruction.’ Although the fundamental reason for this is that studies on both Seoul and Pyongyang have produced few findings from the perspective of urban history, some studies mentioning the war and the cities were focused only on urban reconstruction and failed to consider the exact status of destruction and differences in urban composition before and after ideologies were reflected in the reconstructed cities. In this study I question the accuracy of describing Pyongyang after the war as “a city reconstructed from total destruction.” The question about how and how much Pyongyang was bombed has not been settled, and no one has attempted to analyze the differences in the urban composition of Pyongyang before and after the war. Therefore, I seek to understand the degree of damage to Pyongyang caused by the Korean War and whether ‘total destruction’ is accurate. Based on this, this study uncovers which districts were newly reorganized in urban planning reflected in the General Plan of Reconstruction of Pyongyang formulated in 1951, and which districts preserved their prior urban structures. Through this process, I identify how much the political viewpoints of North Korea have been reflected in districts of new urban planning, and how much the experience of urban redevelopment during the first five years after national liberation was applied to reconstruction after the war.
