Abstract

This study aims to analyze the modes of expression and psychological representation of artists by focusing on the concept of intimacy, which is emerging as a crucial element in the field of art psychology. Intimacy refers to the psychological domain that encompasses deep emotions, thoughts, and experiences, which can be revealed through artistic works. Based on the concepts of intimacy by Martin Heidegger and Gaston Bachelard, this study explores how artists express intimacy across various artistic genres. Heidegger regards intimacy as a space where the essence of existence is revealed, emphasizing the way existence manifests itself. Bachelard, on the other hand, explores intimacy within private and hidden spaces through poetic imagination, explaining how artists embody their inner worlds in their art. This study applies Heidegger and Bachelard’s theories to analyze the works of both Eastern and Western artists, including Choi Buk, Mark Rothko, and Lee Ufan, examining how these artists express intimacy through their creations. Their artistic endeavors illustrate the process of expressing their inner worlds and exploring the psychological depth of existence. Through this analysis, the study demonstrates that intimacy plays a crucial role in the psychological liberation of artists and the creative process, offering new insights into the representation of psychological depth and self-exploration in contemporary art. This research enhances the psychological understanding of the creative process of artists and provides practical implications for applying the concept of intimacy in art education and therapy. Additionally, it contributes to reexamining the essential role of art and deepening the understanding of expression in modern art.
