초록

Although medicine has so far represented originally the complex characteristics which contains both scientific and artistic aspects, modern medicine has placed too much emphasis on the scientific medicine, i.e. biomedical model focusing mainly on the biological properties of diseases which are objective and measurable in order to treat diseases effectively. As a result, modern medicine attains outstanding success, but it deals with negligently and makes light of artistic aspects of medicine such as unique subjective experiences of individual patient, various circumstances of each individual, etc. This phenomenon leads to separate patients form diseases and disregards the context in which non-disease conditions occur. Modern medicine accordingly faces the serious crisis of dehumanization in the medical practice. Reflecting on the scientific medicine under these circumstances, medical humanities made an appearance to pursue more humane medicine on the basis of humanistic introspection. However, medical humanities demonstrates the realistic limitations of being unable to intervene in clinical situations where the direct process of disease treatment is unfolded. On the one hand, placebo effects are actually involved in the treatment of diseases in clinical field. Many characteristics of placebo effects also demonstrates the useful possibility of utilization for improving the various problems of modern medicine. This study therefore discussed detailed measures in which placebo effects as the practical model for medical humanities could be helpfully utilized.
