본 연구는 영어권에서의 중의학 용어 번역 전략과 방법을 분석하고, 그 다양성과 영향 요인을 고찰하였다. 일반 대중과 학계의 수요 차이, 문화 차이, 용어의 변화 과정, 사회적 트렌드 등이 번역에 영향을 미침을 밝혔으며, 효과적인 번역을 위해 문화 전통과 교류의 균형, 표준화와 유연성의 조화, 수요자 중심의 접근이 필요함을 제시하였다.
Abstract
This study explores translation strategies and methods for widely used Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) terminology in English-speaking countries and examines the factors influencing these choices. By comparing TCM terms familiar to general audiences and those recognized by the academic community, this paper highlights the diversity of translation strategies and underscores the significant roles of historical context, terminology stabilization, social trends, and audience-specific needs in shaping translation practices. Findings indicate that improving the quality of TCM terminology translation requires balancing cultural preservation with cross-cultural communication, blending standardization with flexibility, and prioritizing audience needs. This paper recommends further research into TCM terminology translation to facilitate its global dissemination and comprehension.
