초록
The purpose of this study was to investigate high school students' interest in learning contents related to microorganisms of biology and to know the differences of interest according to major course or gender. The instrument consists of two parts(topics and activities) and 57 five-point Likert-scale items. The topics covered were 'viruse's, 'bacteria', 'algae', 'protozoa', 'fungi', and 'general microorganisms'. The activities were 'observation', 'visual and auditory senses', 'investigation', and 'experience & visit'. Data were obtained from 312 high school students. The high school students included in this study had relatively low level of interest in microorganisms. In regard to topics, high school students showed the highest interest level in 'viruses' and 'bacteria', and the least interest level in 'algae', while 'observation' and 'experience & visit' elicited the highest interest level in regard to activities. The science department was higher than the department of liberal arts in topics and activities. The males' interest was higher than the females' in topics and that of females was higher in activities. As results, it was suggested that teaching and learning strategies should be developed considering the department and gender in microorganism education.
