본 연구는 생의 의미와 청소년 비행 간의 관계를 탐구하여, 청소년 비행을 줄이거나 예방하는 중요요인으로 생의 의미의 활용가능성을 탐색하려는 목적으로 진행되었다. 사용변인은 생의 의미와 비행성향 및 비행행동이었다. 대상은 경기도 소재 중고등학교에 재학하는 남녀 학생 602명이었다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 생의 의미수준은 성별 차이는 없으나 학교급간 차이가 있었는데 중학생보다 고등학생의 생의 의미가 더 낮았다. 둘째, 비행성향은 성별, 학교급에 따라 차이가 없었다. 셋째, 비행행동은 학교급간 차이는 없었으나 성별 차이가 있었는데, 여학생에 비해 남학생이 비행행동을 더 많이 하였다. 넷째, 생의 의미와 비행성향 및 행동 간에는 유의미한 관계가 있었는데, 생의 의미수준이 높은 학생들이 생의 의미수준이 낮은 학생들에 비해 비행성향과 비행행동이 더 낮았다. 연구결과를 통해 비행성향과 행동을 낮추거나 예방하기 위해 생의 의미수준을 높이는 것의 중요성이 논의되었다. 그리고 생의 의미 중 어떤 측면이 청소년 비행에 영향을 미치는 가를 규명하는 연구와 청소년의 생의 의미수준을 향상시킬 수 있는 구체적인 프로그램 개발의 필요성이 제안되었다.
Abstract
This study was conducted with the objective to research the relationship between meaning of life and juvenile delinquency, and thereby to seek the possibility of utilizing the meaning of life as an important element for reducing or preventing juvenile delinquency. Variables used in this study are meaning of life, delinquency-oriented value and juvenile delinquents. Objects of research were 602 male and female students of middle and high schools located in Gyeonggi-do. Major results of the study are as follows. First, the level in the meaning of life showed no difference by gender, but showed difference by school grade. That is, high school students were found to have lower level in meaning of life compared to middle school students. Second, delinquency-oriented value showed no difference by gender and by school grade. Third, juvenile delinquents showed no difference by school grade, but showed difference by gender. That is, male students committed more delinquent acts compared to female students. Fourth, significant relationship existed between meaning of life and delinquency-oriented value, juvenile delinquents. This is, students with higher level in meaning of life had less delinquency-oriented value and less juvenile delinquents compared to students with lower level in meaning of life. Based on the results of this study, the importance of heightening the meaning of life was discussed to diminish or prevent delinquency-oriented value and delinquents. Also the need for research to find out which aspects among the meaning of life affect juvenile delinquency, as well as the need for development of concrete program to enhance meaning of life for the youth, were proposed in this study.
