Abstract
The primary purpose of this study was to introduce a feminist perspective on women's criminal victimization. In Korean society, the types of crimes against women were to be diversified, such as intimate partner violence, stalking, stranger rape, sexual harassment, illegal takes and sales of pictures of women and the number of incidence kept increasing. Despite these grave concern on gender violence, more social structural analysis of gender violence has not been attempted. Thus, social structural and feminist analyses of women's criminal victimization need to be done. Feminist research on changes in women’s social status and women's criminal victimization has converged into three main hypotheses: ameliorative hypothesis, backlash hypothesis, and absolute status hypothesis. The author reviewed many previous research on the relationship and then suggested some insightful recommendations for doing the research for the subject. In addition, this article provided realities of changes in women’s status and female victimization using official statistics and reports. In conclusion, the author strongly recommended systematic empirical analysis to find the causal effect of gender inequality on female criminal victimization.
