군 자살자에 대한 심리부검; 해군 장병을 중심으로

근무 특성상 제한된 공간에서 복무하는 해군 장병들이 폐쇄 공포증에 노출됨에 따라 유발된 상당수 자살사건의 발생 원인을 밝히기 위하여 심리부검을 도입하여 적용하고 있지만 아직 시작에 불과하다. 자살자의 자살원인을 밝히기 위한 심리부검은 1950년대부터 시작되어 미국, 일본, 핀란드 등 많은 나라에서 실시되어 왔다. 우리나라도 심리부검의 중요성이 인식되어 일부에서 시행하고 있으며 군에서도 자살자들의 가족이 원하는 경우, 또는 수사상 필요한 경우에 한하여 민간단체의 자문을 받아 심리부검을 실시하고 있다. 죽음의 원인규명을 철저히 밝혀야만 장병들이 동료의 자살로 인한 심적 불안감과 고통을 조금이라도 해소할 수 있을 것이기 때문이다. 본 연구에서는 해군 장병을 중심으로 심리분석을 하였으며,근래 해군에서 자살한 장병을 대상으로 자살자의 현황 및 원인을 알아보고, 심리부검의 사례를 중심으로 원인을 분석하여 보았다.
Abstract
Many suicide cases have occurred in the military-navy. Because of naval personnel’s working and living in tight quarters they are often exposed to a medical condition such as claustrophobia which could lead them to suicidal behavior. For this reason, the military has tried to discover the cause(s) of suicide in a military context. In recent years, the military has begun to apply psychological autopsy techniques, although this is currently in early stages. The psychological autopsy was first used in 1950 in order to discover the cause of military suicides. Since then, it has been conducted in many countries, such as the U.S.A., Japan and Finland. The military has conducted psychological autopsies in consultation with a private organization if an investigation is required or the victim’s family desires that it be performed. When the military investigates the cause of death, it may help the victim’s colleagues to better cope with the loss. In this study, psychological analyses were performed on naval personnel in order to investigate and analyze the causes and impact of suicides.
