Abstract

Self Reflectional Art in the Digital era Suh, Dae Jeong Lecturer / Hanyang University In general, self-reflectional art starts with artist's self-consciousness. So it was not warmly welcomed by the some kind of critics. To tell the truth, it has become a target of attack from early times. They think that meta-fiction artists create the worthless doubts about the artistry. Conservative critics maintain that some artists take the license for the liberty. To sum up, we can see three kinds of critical attitudes First, self reflectional Meta art is criticized for self-narcissistic and self-indulgence. Second, it has been blamed for it's elitism. Many readers or spectators don't understand the Meta art except for some special appreciators The novelist, Gore Vidal said that John barth's novel is more of educational device for academic fields than general novel for ordinary people. And Vladimir Nabokov spoke without reserve “I confess that I have written works not for the readers but for the colleagues at my field and some prospective writers" On that score, we can say Meta art as anti-illuminism art form Finally, Meta art is widely criticized for its dryness and non-interesting, But it doesn't have only negative factors. Meta art has many good aspects. For example, critic, Robert Alter discovered dynamic and liberating power in it. He pointed out ‘a counterattack of sterility' and ‘reckless creation' of this artistic form. But emphasized ‘daring possibility' will lead the readers to a new artistic world. It maybe functioned as a new craft of creation at the crisis of era of representation. It may make artists more contemplative than ever, so awakening artists could look back in the reflection through this form.
