Abstract

SinkaiMakoto’s animation works are renow ned for their background art of particularly high completeness and quality, which has given him such nicknames as God of Backgrounds and Rembrandt of Animation. One of his works is characterized by even superiorand delicate background artcompared with his earlierworks. Reaching a provisional conclusion that it was his consistent method of operation and that certain semiotic elements were inherent in its hidden side, this study set out to analyze the reasons why he put such efforts into the details of background art compared with other directors. The characteristics of SinkaiMakoto’s drawing is as follows. First, He shows Japanese animation philosophy in his Animations which maximized the One-production system. Second, His works shows the art of superb light as if watching an impressionist Art. In addition to that, he adds a brilliant camera work to his work, giving it a fantastic and dreamy feel. Third, his background emphasizes the reality of nature and expresses it as a space filled with human mind. In conclusion, SinkaiMakoto’s Drawing has the hyper reality and the Spectacular direction as the most important feature.
