Abstract
Many Choices Available in the Process ofDI(Digital Intermediate) Many Choices Available in the Process of DI(Digital Intermediate) One of the recent technological advances in film industry is DI(Digital Intermediate). DI refers to the film post-production process done in totally digital environment. It includes scanning of the acquired image, manipulating it, and finally delivering it into such different formats as 35mm film print, HD TV, digital cinema and etc. DI process is readily influenced by pre-DI step, which is shooting, and after-DI step, which is projection. In each of the three steps, pre-DI, DI and after DI, we have many choices to consider: 35mm film or HD video? tape or disc recording? linear or log recording? traditional chemical lab or DI lab? 2K or 4K? film scanner or telecine? hardware or software grading? cut or uncut negative? film print or digital cinema? The better we understand what these choices mean, the bigger our success is when we make films.
