Abstract

This study aims at investigating the relationships between Access ofharmful entertainment business in community and criminal victimizationof juveniles. Deviant lifestyles of juveniles greatly increase the risk ofmost forms of problems, including criminal victimization. In this context, the crucial goal of the current study is to test whether or not visiting inthe decadent entertainment business for juveniles will increase the juveniles' risk of violent and non-violent victimization by using logistic regression analysis. Hanging out in the offensive places that include club, bar, massage parlor, and other deviant businesses of entertainment might be highly associated with certain types of delinquency or victimization of juveniles. Inother words, various elements of delinquent lifestyle of juveniles can negatively affect the possibility of being damaged in terms of both violentvictimization and non-violence victimization. The current study uses the data that are collected from National Youth Policy Institute(NYPI). The raw data stem from the internet site of Korean Child and Youth Data Archive(2011 Safety and Protection for Juveniles), which is built by NYPI. The total respondents of the study are7,084 juveniles who are middle school and high school students. The result shows that juveniles who engage in the harmful entertainment business are more likely to be victimized by both violent crime and non-violent crime. The first logistic regression analysis demonstratesthat gender(male), structure of family(broken home), frequency of visiting harmful entertainment places, and minor delinquency score increase juveniles' odds of being victimized violently. In addition, the second model shows that on average, the likelihoods of being victimized non-violently are 14.1% more whenever the one unit of frequency of visiting offensive entertainment places increases after controlling other variables. Further policy implications about deterring criminal victimization of juvenileswill be discussed.
