초록
We compared 738 cases of break-in robberies and 607 cases of street robberies in South Korea. First, we found that perpetrators of break-in robberies were older and more likely to have previously committed robbery than those of street robberies. Second, our study showed that favorable targets were different for break-in and street robberies, in terms of victim’s age, relationship to the perpetrator, and whether the victim was under the influence. Third, we found that break-in robberies were more strongly associated with premeditation, whereas street robberies were characterized by more severe use of violence. Fourth, we determined several variables that contributed to differentiating break-in robberies from street robberies, including pre-selecting a target, wearing a disguise, and binding the victim. Finally, we discussed policy implications of the study for crime investigation, robbery prevention, and victim treatment.

Fourth, we determined several variables that contributed to differentiating break-in robberies from street robberies, including pre-selecting a target, wearing a disguise, and binding the victim. Finally, we discussed policy implications of the study for crime investigation, robbery prevention, and victim treatment.
