초록

This study aimed to develop a science inquiry activity that collects and analyzes data on photosynthesis rate according to light intensity using Arduino and carbon dioxide sensors in photosynthesis experiments. Research subjects were 326 10th graders at H School in Vietnam, and the research process consisted of three stages: development, application-revision, and reapplication. Learning contents of the science inquiry activity linked core concepts of 'information science' and 'mathematics' to 'life science', and a schoolwide enrichment model and a parallel curriculum model were employed as the basic framework for teaching. The preliminary version was applied to the 'science inquiry experiment' courses for 157 students in 2022, and the revised version to 169 students in 2024. Students' individual reports and outputs, data from in-depth interviews, and teachers' observation data were analyzed. It was found that first, a preliminary version of a data based science inquiry activity using engineering tools for photosynthesis experiments was developed, and the difficulty level was lowered so that students and teachers could easily use it. Second, as a result of analyzing problems that students faced while applying the preliminary version, the directions for improvement were extracted and included in development of the revised version. This revised version included key directions for improvement that students enable to accurately measure data with carbon dioxide sensors, actively participate in activities, enhance their inquiry abilities to design experiments and control variables, and analyze a large amount of data using Colab. Third, as a result of applying the revised version, the level of understanding of students' inquiry abilities increased from 80.9% in experimental design and 72.6% in variable control in 2022 to 91.7% and 84.6% in 2024 with the differences of 10.8% in experimental design and 12.0% in variable control. In conclusion, it was confirmed that the data based science inquiry activity utilizing engineering tools in photosynthesis experiments enable students to easily access high-quality activities and effectively achieve learning outcomes than before.
