Abstract

The 18th President of Korea was elected on the 19th of December, 2012. Park, Keunhye was elected, and the preparation committee was formed right after the election. While she suggested a number of presidential election pledges during the campaign, it is questionable about how many of them will be applied to the policies of the new administration for sure. Then, one would be interested about the situation for the current administration-if the President Lee, Myung Bak adminstration kept the promise about the presidential election pledges. For this reason, this study examined the process that the presidential election pledges of Present Lee, especially for those related to public safety, were transferred to the national agenda. In addition, the researchers observed if any of the agenda were applied to the public safety policies. This study limited the policies to those of the Korean National Police Agency(KNPA) among other criminal justice agencies. In the beginning, President Lee, Myung Bak did not suggest any specific election pledges related to public safety. However, the Lee Administration established the 100 national agenda including those for public safety after the election. After all, the administration had revised the 100 agenda a few time, and it seemed that KNPA applied the public safety policies quite well. Public safety policies were considered important as they are related to the safety of the citizenry and the society, and more attention was paid to the area as the society developed. The Park, Keun Hye Administration should take this point seriously and should make efforts to establish long-term and continuous policies for public safety in order to protect the safety of the citizenry and the society.
