국가경제변화에 따른 경찰인력의 변화와 예측

Abstract

Depending on the circumstances of the periods, Korea has gone through turbulent time. After liberation and the Korean War, police size changed according to the various periods, and this change in police size was soon related to the people’s quality of life. Through various police-related research, we learned that police activities which meet and communicate with the people are important, and the absolute number of police size is also very important. Therefore, this study examines the influencing factor of police size, the main body of crime prevention, and predict future changes in the police size based on statistical analyze. The results of the study are summarized as follows. The relationship between economic factors and police size showed that ‘Unemployment’ and ‘Social Expenditure’ did not affect police size, and only ‘Nominal Gross Domestic Product(nominal GDP)’ was shown to be an economic factor affecting police size. Nominal GDP, which can measure the size of a typical country, has had a greater impact on police size and this can be seen that police size increases when economy is growing more actively than when it is slowing down. According to overseas studies, government attempts to increase police size which is one of the public sector to decrease unemployment rate. However the government of South Korea did not increase police size even though there is prolonged economic slump and rising unemployment rate. Therefore, the government needs to reflect the appropriate policies.
