유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 취업에 대한 신념과 역할만족도, 양육효능감 및 양육스트레스의 관계 - 취업 여부에 따른 차이

초록

본 연구는 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 취업여부에 따라 취업에 대한 신념과 어머니 역할만족도, 양육효능감 및 양육스트레스와의 관계가 다른 양상을 보이는지 검증하였다. 서울 및 경기 지역의 만 3-5세 자녀를 둔 어머니 180명을 대상으로 취업이 자녀 발달에 미치는 긍정적, 부정적 영향에 대한 신념과 어머니의 양육관련 변인과의 상관관계 분석을 실시하고, 상관관계의 차이를 통계적으로 검증하였다. 연구결과, 취업모가 비취업모에 비해 취업에 대한 긍정적 신념이 강하고, 부정적 신념은 약한 것으로 나타났다. 취업모가 비취업모에 비해 높은 수준의 역할만족도와 양육효능감을 보였으며, 양육스트레스에 있어 유의한 차이는 존재하지 않았다. 취업모가 취업에 대한 긍정적인 신념을 가지고 있을 때, 역할만족도 및 양육효능감이 높았고, 취업에 대해 부정적 신념을 가지고 있을 때, 양육효능감이 낮고 양육스트레스가 높았다. 취업에 대한 부정적 신념과 역할만족도, 양육효능감 및 양육스트레스와의 상관관계에 있어 취업여부에 따른 유의한 차이가 발견되었다.

Abstract

Objectives: The current study aimed at investigating any systematic difference in the pattern of relationship between beliefs about maternal employment and mothers’ role satisfaction, parenting efficacy, and parenting stress depending on their employment status. Methods: We conducted correlation analysis and tested the statistical significance of the group difference in the correlations using the data from 180 mothers with 3-5 year-old-children living in Seoul and Kyong-gi province. Results: Employed mothers had higher level of positive beliefs about maternal employment and lower level of negative beliefs about matermal employment compared to non-employed mothers. They also showed greater role satisfaction and parenting efficacy. No group difference was detected in parenting stress between employed and non-employed mothers. When employed mothers held greater beliefs in the beneficial effects of maternal employment, they had greater role satisfaction and parenting efficacy, whereas their greater beliefs in cost of maternal employment was related to lower level of parenting efficacy and greater parenting stress. There existed statistically significant difference in the pattern of relationship between beliefs and parenting variables between employed and non-employed mothers. Conclusions: It is important to consider mothers’ beliefs about maternal employment in understanding the meaning of working or not working.
