청소년의 디지털 기기 중독 예방과 치료를 위한 중독 상호작용 분석: 종단 연구를 통한 기기 간 상호작용 고찰

초록

본 연구는 청소년의 휴대폰 중독과 컴퓨터 사용간의 중독 상호작용에 대해 알아보기 위해 종단 연구를 실시하였다. 분석을 위해 한국아동청소년패널의 중학교 1학년 코호트 2차년도-4차년도 총 3년간의 자료를 활용하였고, 중독 상호작용의 차원으로 강화와 대체에 초점을 두어 살펴보았다. 종속변수인 휴대폰 중독과 관심변수인 일일 컴퓨터 사용시간 외에도 휴대폰 중독 성향과 관련된 개인 수준의 변수 및 가구 수준의 변수들, 성별 등이 포함되었다. 모형 추정 결과, 고정효과 및 확률효과모형 모두에서 1일 컴퓨터 사용시간의 증가가 휴대폰 중독 성향 증가로 귀결됨을 확인할 수 있었고, 두 기기 간의 중독 상호작용은 ‘강화’로 볼 수 있다. 무선 인터넷 발달과 휴대폰 기능의 확장으로, 컴퓨터 사용이 점차 줄고 휴대폰 사용은 증가하는 ‘대체’가 아닌 ‘강화’ 관계를 보임으로써, 여러 개의 디지털 기기를 사용하도록 허용하는 것은 청소년의 디지털 기기 중독을 증강시킬 뿐임을 확인할 수 있었다. 부모들은 자녀의 디지털 기기 사용에 있어 시간제한 이외에도 하나의 기기만 사용하도록 제한할 필요가 있다. 한편 휴대폰 중독에 영향을 주는 기타 요인들로는 응답자의 비행행동성향, 우울증, 공격성 및 부모의 방임 및 학대가 발견되었다. 특히 부모 방임의 경우에는 고정효과모형에서도 유의하게 나타나, 이를 예방과 치료를 위한 가족과 부모 교육 프로그램이 절실함을 보여준다.

Abstract

Objectives: This study examined the addiction interaction between mobile-phone and computer use. Methods: Using three waves from the Korea Child and Youth Panel Survey, the researcher performed panel regression analysis, including a random and fixed-effects model. Results: Increased time spent using computers has led to more severe addiction to mobile phones. This relation supports the contention that mobile phones and computers interactively accelerate (or intensify) users’ addiction to digital devices. Significant variables included delinquent tendencies, depression, aggression, and parenting abuse and neglect. The dummy variable of year was also significant. Conclusions: This study concludes with a discussion of therapeutic implications in regards to prevention and intervention for adolescent digital device addiction.
