초록
The present study was conducted to evaluate the anti-oxidant and whitening effects of Diospyros lotus. Various parts of D. lotus, including pulp, seed, and leaf were extracted by using methanol. Anti-oxidant potential was examined by employing three in vitro models i.e. total polyphenol contents, DPPH radical scavenging assay, and ABTS radical scavenging assay. The seed extract had the highest content of pheonlics and showed the highest DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity among all the extracts. The viability of B16F10 cells was evaluated by MTT assay to determine the non-toxic doses for further experiments. The seed extract significantly reduced tyrosinase activity and melanin content in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, it decreased α-MSH-induced protein expression of tyrosinase-related protein-1 (TYP-1), tyrosinase-related protein 2 (TYP-2), and microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF). Therefore, D. lotus seed extract can be used as alternative sources of functional whitening cosmetic products.
