Abstract
According to the data released by the Ministry of Small Business and Venture Business, the average ratio of successful R & D projects from 2013 to 2017 is only about 48%. One of the causes of this problem is the lack of strategic research on marketing. In order to solve this problem, current research attempts to identify the conditions under which SMEs can succeed in developing new products. The data used in the study were collected through a questionnaire survey of 200 SMEs in Korea. The companies surveyed were selected as the convenience sampling method in the company information database of 500,000 companies. Each participant selected one person responsible for planning, marketing, and research and development related to new product development. As a result, the absorption capacity of SMEs related to new product development has a positive effect on the performance of new products. In this process, it is confirmed that the degree of marketing-R & D interface of SMEs and exploratory new product development strategy serve as mediators. This study not only provides strategic implications for SMEs to succeed in developing new products, but also suggests the establishment of SME R & D support policies at the government level.
