초록

This paper aims to analyze how Neo-Confucianism has impacted on South Korean business culture through considering critically Geert Hofstede’s four categories of cross-cultural model: Power Distance, Uncertainty Avoidance, Individualism and Collectivism, and Masculinity and Femininity. Basically Hofstede’s isolation of Neo-Confucian teaching’s impact on business culture through its own category is too short-sighted as those values impact his other cultural dimensions as well. Aside from this methodological criticism, more recent changes in Korea should be reconsidered necessarily even though many scholars admit the lasting relevance of Hofstede’s cultural model for cross-cultural research. This paper tries to prove both the limitation and usefulness of Hofstede’s model.
