Abstract

This study examines how display strategies in Specialty Retailer of Private-label Apparel (SPA) stores function not merely as arrangements of merchandise, but as spatial design devices that materialize consumer experience and brand philosophy. Focusing on UNIQLO as a case study, it investigates in depth how specific merchandising methods influence brand identity formation and the shaping of consumer experience. First, the study demonstrates that SPA display strategies operate as a spatial communication system that experientially constructs brand identity rather than serving as purely visual components. In particular, UNIQLO stores are analyzed as a service design medium that translates the LifeWear philosophy into visual, sensory, behavioral, cognitive, and relational experiences, elucidating how physical display methods cultivate consumers perceptual trust and behavioral engagement. The research then typologizes merchandising practices observed in SPA stores and organizes key strategies such as color blocking, functionality zones, and experiential displays. Findings from the UNIQLO case confirm that store display strategies enhance shoppers search efficiency while expanding the LifeWear philosophy into sensory, affective, cognitive, behavioral, and relational dimensions. These results offer significant academic implications for extending servicescape theory and experiential marketing discourse within interior design, while also providing practical, strategic guidance for domestic SPA brands.
