Abstract

This study examines the success factors of newly launched Korean food products on Amazon U.S., leveraging big data from Jungle Scout. Given Amazon’s competitive environment, data-driven strategies are essential for effective market entry. We collected data on 529 Korean food items listed in 2024, focusing on key variables such as price, number of reviews, rating, Listing Quality Score (LQS), product tier, weight, estimated monthly sales, and revenue. Success was defined as achieving either 100 or more monthly units sold or generating $1,000 or more in monthly revenue. Two machine learning algorithms—Random Forest and XGBoost—were employed to construct predictive models. Statistical analysis revealed that review count had the most significant influence on both monthly sales and revenue, highlighting its role in consumer trust and purchasing behavior. Price was also a meaningful predictor of revenue, though it had limited impact on sales volume. XGBoost outperformed Random Forest in model accuracy (90.0%) and AUC-ROC (94.0%). Feature importance analysis confirmed that reviews and price were the most critical variables. Based on these results, a decision support tool was developed to predict product success and provide strategic recommendations through visualized outputs. This research contributes to the field of cross-border e-commerce by offering actionable insights into launching and managing products effectively on Amazon. Future research should expand the scope to additional product categories and integrate external factors such as market competition, brand equity, and customer sentiment for more comprehensive prediction models.
