Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to understand the motherhood experience of North Korean WomenDefectors delivering in South Korea. Methods: The raw data was gathered through in-depth interviews with sevenNorth Korean Women Defectors from July 2010 to June 2012. All of the data was analyzed through the methodproposed by Colaizzi (1978). Results: This study extracted 25 formulated meanings arranged in six themes. Thesix themes were 'Taste a new world from the new experience of being pregnant’, ‘A painful body and mind withno relying on’, ‘The child becomes the source of vitality’, ‘Burden of a mother's role different from that of NorthKorea’, ‘Concern that mother's status as a North Korean woman defector may harm one’s child’, ‘Put all effortinto making a life for the sake of the child’. Conclusion: This findings might provide insight for future maternityrelated policies and nursing strategies targeting North Korean Women defectors.
