초록

Purpose: The aim of this secondary data analysis study was to provide basic data for seeking support for tuberculosis management in North Korea by understanding the current state of tuberculosis management in North Korea during the Kim Jong-un era. Methods: By applying the content analysis method, the authors examined the performance by tuberculosis treatment phases of ten North Korean defectors who were treated in North Korea based on the ‘Cough-to-Cure Pathway’ model, and identified problems with tuberculosis treatment in North Korea. Results: We identified 15 themes with tuberculosis treatment management according to the six phases of the Cough-to-Cure Pathway. No participants were completely cured of tuberculosis, resulting in incomplete treatment, and six of them were diagnosed with tuberculosis recurrence after entering South Korea. Conclusion: The tuberculosis management system in North Korea has room for improvement.
