초록
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning and essence of nurses’ experiences in maintaining their roles at tertiary hospitals during a medical strike. Methods: Employing a qualitative phenomenological methodology, this research engaged twelve nurses through in-depth interviews at six tertiary hospitals in S city from April to July 2024. The essence of participants’ experiences was analyzed using Colaizzi’s methodological framework. Participants were recruited through purposive sampling, including nurses who provided direct patient care during a medical strike. Results: The analysis revealed four theme clusters themes: 1) confronted with sudden changes without preparation; 2) recognizing the necessity for the future of nursing; 3) insights gained through expanded roles; and 4) the urge to halt the damage and strive for solutions: a call for compromise. Nurses did not simply maintain their roles. Rather, they expanded their roles within the healthcare system, enhanced their professional expertise, and recognized the necessity for systematic changes and support to advance the future of healthcare. Conclusion: This study enhances the comprehensive understanding of nurse management and support during a medical strike. It provides foundational data for policy development and the establishment of support systems.
