물촌 신종위의 초상화와 『물촌선생영정개모시일기』

Abstract

This paper is a consideration of records related to the characteristics and recopying of <The Portrait of Shin Jong-wi 申從渭 肖像畵>, which has been newly excavated and reveals a portrait of the gentry in the Andong area during the 16th century. <The Portrait of Shin Jong-wi> was for Sujik (a government post given as a reward 壽職) in 1580 when he was 80, and it was created in commemoration of his promotion to Tongjeongdaebu通政大夫. This inherits the <The Portrait of Kim Jin 金璡 肖像畵> and <The Portrait of Lee Hyeon-bo 李賢輔 肖像畵> which are the previously known portraits of the gentry in the Andong area. Also, its expressive style is similar to that of <The Portrait of Kim Jin>, and it was discovered that a painter who had the same linage of painting style drew the portrait by referring to <The Portrait of Kim Jin>. The Diary of the Period of Recopying of the Portrait Scroll of Sir Mulchon 勿村先生影幀改摹時日記, which is the record of the recopying of <The Portrait of Shin Jong-wi>, and which was created in 1849, was completed only within 3 days by Pil-an疋晏, a Buddhist monk painter, aimed at existing <The Portrait of Shin Jong-wi> and was evaluated to be very satisfactory by the offspring of Sin Jong-wi. The then recopied version is not handed down today, but it was possible to identify the reality including the recopying process, materials, and costs of the 19th portraits through the comparison of 'The Diary of Recopying' with the Yeongjeong Diary of the Period of Recopying 影幀改摹時日記 of <The Portrait of Lee Hyeon-bo>. <The Portrait of Sin Jong-wi> is estimated to be a very important resource that enables us to closely look into various facets of the creation of the recopied edition as well as the local style and the style of the era of the 16th century portraits.
