Abstract

This study aims to introduce a manuscript 『Damheonseo(湛軒書)』 kept by the Korean Christian Museum at Soongsil University, and also to estimate its material values. Currently, only volume 2, 3, and 4 are passed down without volume 1, so that the existence of its table of contents cannot be seen. However, viewing the rest books, it seems to be temporarily bound according to the quantity without a table of contents. Each volume marked the number of volume on the cover without the title, and the title on the first page was ‘Damheonseo’. Even as a lacking-volume edition, based on the characteristics of its form, the manuscript 『Damheonseo」 must be used as a revised edition of 『Damheonseo』 published by the Shin Joseonsa in 1939. Compared to the book, the direction of proofreading in the manuscript is fully reflected into the book. It has an important value as a revised edition working as the original script of book. Moreover, as a material showing the existence of a different version of 『Damheonseo』, it is valuable as a material that becomes the basis for researches on 『Damheonseo』 text. Damheon’s literary text showing the aspect of 『Damheonseo』 distributed before the book currently used, is the manuscript 『Damheonseo』. Also, it has a value as a book 『Damheonseo』 compiled by collecting scattered Damheon’s writings.
