이세응의 의리역학적 <<주역>>해석과 상수적 요소

본 논문은 조선 전기에 드물게 『주역』경문을 주석하였던 안재安齋 이세응(李世應1473〜1528)의 역학사상의 특징을 주로 의리역학적 해석과 상수학적 요소에 주목하여 검토하고 해명하고자 하였다. 이세응은 기본적으로 의리역학적인 괘효사 해석방법론으로서 中正 .比應 등의 이론을 이용하여 『주역』을 주석하였다. 그러나 그는 호체를 통해서도 괘효사를 해석하였다. 이세응이 호체론을 통하여 괘효사를 해석한 것에는 두드러진 특징이 있다. 이것은 그가 유가의 도덕실천을 목표로 한 의리역학의 관점에 서 있는 만큼 괘효사 해석에 호체론을 적용하는 데 있어서도 호체괘를 의리역학적인 해석 목표에 따라 그 의미를 설명하고 있다는 점이다. 구체적으로 이세응은 中正 개념을 통해 괘효사를 해석하면서도 陰을 억제하고 陽을 돕는 것을 중시한다는 점에서 유가의 의리역학적 시각을 계승하고 있다. 또한 그는 비응론의 관점에 따라 [주역]을 주석하기도 하였다. 그는 정이가 비응 관계에 따라 [주역]을 해석한 관점을 대체로 받아들이면서도 비응 관계에 대하여 다른 이해방식을 견지하기도 한다. 그는 ‘比’와 ‘應’관계 중에 ‘비’보다는 대부분 ‘應’의 관계를 통하여 괘효사를 해석하고 있다. 그런데 이세응이 [주역]을 해석하기 위해 적용한 방법론 가운데 의리역학적 관점에 따라 해석하는 부분과 상수역학적 방법에 따라 해석하는 부분의 비율을 보면 의리역학적 관점에 따라 해석하는 것이 주된 부분을 차지한다. 따라서 이세응의 [주역] 해석은 의리역학적 방법론을 위주로 하여 상수역학적 방법을 겸하였다고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
This essay tried to examine Lee Sae-Eung's Thought of the Iching in viewpoint of Purpose of Moral Principle Yiology. Lee Sae-Eung primarily analyzed the Iching by means of equilibrum and righteousness[中正], propinquity and response[比應] as the interpreting methods of hexagrams and lines of Moral Principle Yiology. But he noted it through a theory of relative linking substance[互體論]. It has important characteristic that Lee, Sae-eung interpretes sentences of hexagram and line through a theory of relative linking substance. This means that because he takes up the position of approving moral principle theory of the Iching for the purpose of moral practise, he explains meaning of relative linking substance hexagram according to a viewpoint of moral principle theory of the Iching. In the concrete, he evaluated good fortune and misfortue of hexagram and line of Zhou Yi through the concept of equilibrum and righteousness, propinquity and response. Moreover he also takes over Confucian moral principle theory of the Iching in that he attachs importance to an opinion of repressing yin and encouraging yang. However, The methodology which Lee, Sae-eung applied for the interpretation of Zhou Yi involves more portion one of moral principle theory of the Iching than method of Yiology of symbol and numerology.
