한국고전번역원의 주석DB 활용 및 개선방안 연구

Abstract

This paper aims to establish a plan to improve the 「DB for Footnotes of Translated Classics」 of the Institute for the Translation of Korean Classics. This DB contains 499,151 entries collected from 187 titles (1,528 volumes) of books and it is of high quality. Therefore I chose this DB for this study. It is true that a translation without footnotes is the best, but it is nearly impossible to translate without any footnotes in the field of classics or specialized works. Furthermore, annotating work is too hard to do in a short time. In this situation, 「DB for Footnotes」 is the best alternative to a dictionary. That is because ‘good translation’ has ‘good annotation’, and ‘good annotation’ brings another ‘good translation’. It is a kind of virtuous circle. In this study, I examined utilization of 「DB for Footnotes」 from various angles. I suggested several plans for improvement, which are called ‘setting standards for fine information’, ‘setting standards for biographic information’, and ‘adding highlights and improving search methods’. I hope this work contributes a first step toward improving the 「DB for Footnotes of Translated Classics」.
