Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of perspective-oriented social skill training on improvement of social competence for schizophrenic patients. For this study, thirty four schizophrenic patients(experimental and control group, seventeen patients for each group) who haven't problems with alcohol dependancy, mental retardation, and personality disorders were chosen, and perspective-oriented social skill training were executed once a week during 13weeks(per session for sixty minutes). The results of the study were as follows: First, the perspective-oriented social skill training improved the verbal and nonverbal social skills of the schizophrenic patients. Second, the perspective-oriented social skill training improved the nonverbal mind theory of the schizophrenic patients. Third, the perspective-oriented social skill training is effective to improve the verbal mind theory of schizophrenic patients. It means that this training could be a useful program to improve the verbal and nonverbal mind theory of the schizophrenic patients. Fourth, the perspective-oriented social skill training for the schizophrenic patients improved the social skills, verbal and nonverbal mind theory of them, but their social skill ability were not well functioning for daily social situations. These results imply that the higher perspective-oriented social skill training is needed for the appropriate social roles in the daily life.
